Hello Eau Claire County Residents,
My name is Kevin Otto and I am running as a candidate for the office of Eau Claire County Sheriff. I have been a resident of Eau Claire County for twenty-six years. My wife, Michelle and my two adult daughters, Allison and Ashley live in the city of Eau Claire.
I moved to Eau Claire in pursuit of my Associate Degree in Criminal Justice at Chippewa Valley Technical College. I completed my degree and was hired as a police officer in Northern Wisconsin. I worked as a security officer at the Turtle Lake Casino and in the Menards Distribution center.
In July of 1999, I started my career at Eau Claire County Sheriff's Office as a Correctional Officer in the jail. I worked on all shifts in the jail and performed all the duties within my role. In 2002, I became a Field Training Officer in which I trained and assisted new officers hired in the jail.
In January of 2010, I was promoted to Jail Sergeant. I have received extensive training in leadership, police organizations, field training, and generational differences. In this supervisor role, I have diligently worked with the development and mentorship of officers with the Sheriff's Office. I also became the Training Coordinator for the Sheriff's Office Jail Training program.
Along with my public service, I became an active board member of the Wisconsin Field Training Officers Association (WFTOA) since 2002 and I am currently the Executive Director. This organization assists and conducts training for training officers across the State of Wisconsin.
I have been an active community member through my church community and served as the President of my church congregation 2014-2018. I assisted with the American Cancer Society-Eau Claire County Relay for Life community event.
I work and live in Eau Claire County, and have seen all the changes that Eau Claire has experienced. Eau Claire is a diverse and growing community that needs a Sheriff's Office to adjust to all of it's citizens. I believe that my personal and professional experiences have prepared me to be the next Sheriff of Eau Claire County.
